Naspers has sold ecommerce websites Allegro and Ceneo
The global internet group Naspers Limited has sold 100 percent of its stakes in Allegro Group, which includes online marketplace Allegro.pl and price comparison website Ceneo.pl, to private equity firms Cinven, Permira and Mid Europa. Naspers sold the Poland-based ecommerce group for 3.253 billion dollar (€2.96 billion).
Note that Allegro was founded in 1999 and is nowadays one of the most popular online shopping websites in Poland. It has over 20 million registered users and sells 850,000 items per day. Ceneo was founded in 2004 and is based in Wrocław. It´s really is the most popular online shopping business in Poland.
It is known that Allegro and Ceneo are two of the biggest ecommerce websites in Poland. Allegro Group was acquired by the South African media company Naspers in 2008 for 1.5 billion dollars. «Since then we have built it into a respected and successful commerce brand in Poland», says Naspers´ CEO Bob van Dijk. «We are extremely proud of Allegro´s team and success, and we are delighted that Cinven, Permira and Mid Europa will lead its next chapter. Our decision to sell Allegro is consistent with our strategy to find and realize value for our shareholders», he added.
Naspers also has several assets in Ukraine and it´s one of the major shareholder in the group of companies EVO (Prom.ua), ModnaKasta, OLX.
